Over thirty years ago, Tidelands Community Hospice was started through the support and grassroots efforts of volunteers and members of the medical community in our area. Mary Atmar Johnson, “Mamar,” served on the original committee that brought this Hospice into being and helped make it what it is today. In her honor, the Mary Atmar Johnson Scholarship was established.
Each year four recipients pursuing a degree in the field nursing or social work and reside in one of the counties (Georgetown, Horry, Williamsburg) served by Tidelands Community Hospice are each awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Awarding this scholarship offers Tidelands Community Hospice an opportunity to perpetuate the cycle of caring and commitment and to honor “Mamar.”
